» MD's visit to Pithampur Wire Plant
Date: 14th January 2010 |
Venue: Pithampur, Indore
On 14th January ‘10, Mr. HM Nerurkar, Managing Director Tata Steel, visited Pithampur Wire Plant (PWP), Indore (a unit of Wire Division). During his one-hour visit to the plant, Mr. Nerurkar interacted with many officers as well as walked through the shopfloor to interact with the workmen.
The unit focused to showcase to Mr. Nerurkar the efforts taken by Wire Division in TQM & Improvement activities (Small Group Activities / Kaizens, MAT Projects, 1S - 2S etc.). MD showed great interest during his interaction with the workmen about major achievements of PWP in their journey towards improvement and excellence. Numerous Quality Circles (SGAs) exhibited their Kaizens on the shopfloor and were guided by the MD on ways of further improving these processes.
Mr. Nerurkar appreciated the achievements of PWP employees and also praised for the upkeep and visual work place management of the plant. He expressed that he could see the positive energy around the work place.
PWP was acquired by Wire Division in 2006 (a loss-making unit at that time). Wire Division is in the process of transforming this plant with world-class operating and TQM practices. It runs on a unique 'Management Agency' model wherein Wire Division provides the technical and management expertise, while the agency provides the technical and commercial human resources.
In January ’10, the unit has achieved great milestones in production by recording the highest ever overall production of 2,600 MT (previous best was 2,570 MT in Oct ’09) as well as the highest ever production of PCSR of 850 MT (previous best was 780 MT in Oct ’09).
